World Bank Group Africa Fellowship Programme

African nationals pursuing a PhD are invited to apply for the World Bank Group fellowship. This paid six-month-long programme will allow fellows work on research, economic policy, technical assistance, and lending operations that contribute to the World Bank Group’s goal of eliminating poverty and increasing shared prosperity. The deadline is on Monday 23rd August 2021.

The World Bank is an international financial institution that provides loans and grants to the governments of low- and middle-income countries for the purpose of pursuing capital projects. 

The fellowship targets young talented African nationals who are completing or have recently completed their PhD.

The programme offers selected fellows a six-month assignment at WBG offices in Washington D.C. or in country offices to gain hands-on experience in WBG operations.

This includes knowledge generation and dissemination, design of global and country policies, and the building of institutions to achieve inclusive growth in developing countries.

While benefiting from research and innovation in multiple sectors, fellows will also work on research, economic policy, technical assistance, and lending operations that contribute to the World Bank’s goal of eliminating poverty and increasing shared prosperity.

The deadline is on Monday 23rd August 2021.

 

Main Criteria

Candidates should be recent PhD graduates within three years of completion of their studies or current students in the last year of the PhD programme.

Excellent command of English is required.

Selected candidates will be hired as short-term consultants for six months starting January 2022.

Fellows are eligible to receive consultant fees and round-trip economy class air travel to Washington, D.C. or a WBG country office from their university or institution.
