Students pursuing degrees in law, economics, translation, IT, communications, etc. are invited for an internship at World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland. Undergraduate and graduate students will receive monthly stipends of 1,570 and 2,070 Swiss francs, respectively.
WIPO is the global forum for intellectual property services, policy, information, and cooperation. It is a self-funding agency of the United Nations, with 192 member states. Their mission is to lead the development of a balanced and effective international IP system that enables innovation and creativity for the benefit of all. Their mandate, governing bodies and procedures are set out in the WIPO Convention, which established WIPO in 1967.
WIPO offers an internship program to support its mission that promotes innovation and creativity for the economic, social and cultural development of all countries. Internships are available in the fields of law, economics, IT, technical cooperation services, project administration, copyright, translation, etc. The length of internships for undergraduate upperclassmen is between three to six months. Interns assigned to WIPO Headquarters in Geneva will receive a monthly stipend of 1,570 Swiss francs including local transportation allowance. The length of internships for graduate students is between three and twelve months. This category of interns will receive a monthly stipend of 2,070 Swiss francs including local transportation allowance.
The deadline is on 1 July 2020.
Main criteria
- For individuals pursuing a first-level university degree, candidates must be in their third or fourth year of study and/or in a program that requires the completion of an internship as part of the degree requirements
- Graduates will be eligible to apply for an internship no more than two years after completion of their most recent university degree or postgraduate studies
- Computer skills, good analytical skills, and excellent knowledge of English are required
- Knowledge of any of the following WIPO working languages would be an advantage: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish
