Future optometrists must complete formal academic studies in optometry, then undergo pre-licensing training for 12 to 15 months and pass a final exam. The leading institutions offering optometry studies.
Required skills:
- Communication skills;
- Manual dexterity, accuracy – attention to detail;
- Knowledge and mastery of new developments in the field;
- Comfort with close proximity with patients;
- Strong aptitude for team play.
Future employment:
Hospital, group, or independent practice. Optometrists can also work in research or for large corporations.
Salary:
Most practices pay from EUR 22,000 to EUR27,000 a year.
Experienced optometrists can command salaries from EUR37,000 to EUR79,000 plus.
