The Most Iconic Series

The production of new series is now moving at a high speed. Whether the new show will be a success or a flop is usually obvious within a few episodes. Nevertheless, some series have become really iconic and unforgettable. Check out the best of them.

M*A*S*H

The series titled M*A*S*H was one of the most succesful series of its time. The episodes were approximately 25 minutes long, and the two-and-a-half hour long movie posted records in the number of people who watched it. The series depicted the events inside a US Army field hospital during the Korean war and starred Alan Alda as Hawkeye Pierce, Loretta Swit as Margaret Houlihan, and Harry Morgan as Sherman Potter.

Length: 11 series, lasting from 1972 to 1983.

 

F.R.I.E.N.D.S

An iconic series which began in the nineties, coinciding with the advent of the Millenium. Viewers either loved Friends or hated it, but the fact remains that it was an enormous success for all the participants. For most protagonists, the roles overlapped their personalities and the actors were often recognised as Monica, Chandler, Phoebe, Ross, or Joey. While most of them tried acting careers after the series ended, it really was Jennifer Aniston, as Rachel, who had the greatest success with her later career as actress.

Length: 10 series, lasting from 1994 to 2004

The Simpsons

After telenovelas, this is the longest lasting series. On the air since 1983, The Simpsons has managed to catch a couple of generations. The relatively simple story about one disparate family of five, personified by a distinguished yellow appearance, caught on impressively, responding to some of the major events of its time in its unique way. 

The series has also welcomed many, many guest stars (among others The Rolling Stones, Alec Baldwin, and Kim Basinger), for which The Simpsons hold the Guinness World Record for Most Guest Stars Featured in a TV Series from 2010. All of them, of course, appeared in typical yellow incarnations.

Length: so far 29 series, lasting from 1987 till date.

Game of Thrones

HBO’s fantasy saga, based on the bestseller by George R. R. Martin. An epic series capturing the power rivalry over the highest symbol of power – the Iron Throne of  the fictional monarchy known as Westeros.

Length: so far 7 series, lasting from 2011. For 2019 is planned the eight seasson.

House of Cards

A series by Netflix. The ambitious journey of Francis Underwood (Kevin Spacey) and his no less aggressive wife Clair (Robin Wright) through the highest politics to reach the most powerful post. In 2017 Kevin Spacey was accused of sexual harassment, for which he was released from the series. The leading role has since taken over by Clair.

Length: so far 5 series, lasting from 2013 – till date.
