The Humphrey Fellowship Program

The Humphrey Fellowship Program is designed for professionals interested in strengthening their leadership skills through a mutual exchange of knowledge and understanding about issues of common concern in the U.S. and the Fellows’ home countries. The closing date for the applications is October 1, although the deadlines vary by country.

Fellows are placed at one of the participating USA universities. The Fellowship offers valuable opportunities for professional development through taking selected university courses, attending conferences, networking, and having practical work experiences. The eligible program fields include Agricultural Development, Journalism, Economics, Finance and Banking, Law and Human Rights, Teaching English as a Foreign Language, and Urban and Regional Planning.

The Fellowship covers tuition and fees at the assigned host university, a living allowance, accident and sickness insurance, a book allowance, a computer subsidy, airplane tickets, and a development allowance for professional activities such as field trips, professional visits, and conferences. The fellowship is available for citizens of all countries.

Main criteria

  • Candidates should have obtained undergraduate degrees and should have experience with full-time work;
  • Moreover, applicants should show effective English language abilities and demonstrate leadership qualities as well as have a record of public service in the community.
