We have already introduced one of the most famous mafia films – The Godfather – in an article titled Bad Guys As Heroes in Movies.

The Untouchables

Kevin Costner, Sean Connery, Charles Martin Smith, Andy Garcia, and Robert De Niro. Star casting in a film that depicts real events from the beginning of the 20th century. Prohibition – which made the purchase and production of alcohol illegal in the U.S. – came into force in 1920 and led to an era in which the mafia boomed by profiting from the new law.

Eastern Promises

A diary found with a woman who died during labour places the midwife, Anna, on the trail of the Russian criminal clan in London. The film was warmly received and was awarded the Audience Prize for best movie at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival.

Donnie Brasco

Al Pacino and Johnny Depp in title roles in a film based on the true story of FBI agent Joe Pistone, who managed to infiltrate the Bonanno crime family and to an extent also the Colombo crime family, which were two of the five main Mafia clans in New York. He managed to map their lives, habits, and rituals for seven years, leading to hundreds of arrests.  Eventually, Joe Pistone had to be given a secret identity to protect him. The rules for accepting new members into Mafia families became stricter after the Pistone experience.

Based on a true story. Back in the forties, charismatic gangster Benjamin Siegel – Bugsy – is a participant in organised crime. His companions send him to California to explore the potential there. He sees the possibility of developing Las Vegas into a center for casinos and gambling. His lifestyle, the unexpectedly high costs of the proposed investments, and his stormy relationship with his girlfriend, Virginia Hill, agitate his bosses.

State of Grace

Sean Penn, Ed Harris, Gary Oldman, and Robin Wright – those are the names of the cast in a film about a reunion between friends from childhood, one of whom is a member of the Irish Mafia and the other is a cop.
