World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Summer School provides an opportunity for university students and young professionals to acquire a deeper knowledge of intellectual property (IP), and how it can be used as a tool for sustainable development. Scholarships are available for international participants to the Summer School in South Africa. Scholarships include travel costs. The deadline is on 30 August 2019.
Apply for Summer Schools on Intellectual Property
Participants who will apply for Summer Schools on Intellectual Property are exposed to various aspects of IP, including the international nature of IP protection and the interface between IP and other disciplines.
The program consists of lectures, case studies, simulation exercises and group discussions on selected IP topics, with an orientation towards the interface between IP and other disciplines.
The Summer Schools are aimed at university students, young professionals with a business and law background, and government officials whose duties may require them to have an understanding of how the international IP system functions and its intersection with other policy areas such as health, climate change, and agriculture.
A certificate of participation is awarded to participants who successfully complete the program requirements.
- The Summer School is open to approximately 50 senior students (graduate and postgraduate) and young professionals from any field of study or discipline. The program is designed for candidates who are already familiar with IP.
- All applicants are required to have successfully completed the WIPO Distance Learning Course on Intellectual Property Management (DL 450) before being selected for the program.
- Participants are responsible for their own travel as well as accommodation and living expenses during their participation in the program.
- Non-resident participants will be provided with insurance coverage for the duration of their stay in connection with the Summer School program.
Applicants should submit their résumé together with a letter of motivation (setting out their reasons for applying and what they hope to gain from the Summer School).
