Engineering students from the USA, Canada, and Mexico are invited to apply for a paid internship at a steel-related company in North America. Additionally, the interns will receive a scholarship worth US$6,000 for the following academic year. The deadline is on 31 October 2020.
Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) is a non-profit professional organization focused on promoting the international iron and steel industry through networking and education. The AIST has over 17,500 members in over 70 countries. The Association also runs an international conference each year called AISTech. AIST also offers training courses and local events organized by its various member chapters and technical committees.
The Steel Intern Scholarship provides recipients with a paid summer internship at a steel producing or steel-related company, followed by a US$6,000 scholarship award for the next academic year beginning in the fall. The AIST Foundation awards up to thirty annual scholarships and the highest scoring applicant receives the Premier Scholarship worth US$12,000. Applicant must commit to a paid summer internship at a North American company. Upon selection, AIST will assist in internship placement, however, applicants are encouraged to seek information from steel companies at career/job events and may, at any time, accept an internship or co-op at a steel producing company or industry supplier. Applications will be evaluated based on their steel industry interest, grades, letters of recommendation, and extra-curricular activities.
The deadline is on 31 October 2020.
- Candidates should be pursuing a degree in the following engineering field: metallurgy, materials science, electrical, mechanical, chemical, industrial, environmental, computer science and safety
- Applications will be accepted from university freshmen, sophomore and junior applicants, and seniors planning to attend graduate school
- Applicants should have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
- The applicant must be a citizen of a NAFTA country (USA, Canada, Mexico). A CV, a letter of motivation and a letter of recommendation must be submitted with the application
