According to the 2019 Digital Report, global Internet use has grown continuously. Today there are 4.39 billion internet users world-wide, 366 million (9%) more than in January 2018. And there are now 3.48 billion social media users on this planet, a total increase of 288 million (9 per cent) since January of last year. According to the most recent United Nations estimates, confirmed by Worldometers, the world’s population is currently 7.7 billion.

How far can a teenager take his desire to find fame and popularity among his peers? What role can access to the Internet play in this situation? These and other questions are asked by the viewer after watching Swedish director Jonatan Etzler’s film, Get Ready with Me, which was presented this year at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival. Jonatan also received a Student Academy Award in Gold for it in 2018. Vendela is a typical teenager who wants to be special and popular, but so far she hasn't done too well with either one. In addition, she wears braces and is not the cutest girl in her class at all. The easiest way to change the situation, she decides, is to make provocative videos and post them on YouTube. And what could be more provocative than mocking teachers? Who cares about the results, right?

Young journalists from all over Europe are welcome to apply for the European Youth Media Days (EYMD). It is one of the biggest events in Europe dedicated to young media workers. The deadline is on 31 August 2018.

Fully Funded WCSFP Congress 2018 in Brisbane, Australia is now accepting applications. The Emerging Producers Bursary Program offers up-and-coming producers working in science, history, and non-fiction media a range of financial support for accreditation, travel and accommodation for the World Congress of Science and Factual Producers (WCSFP). If you are studying journalism, submit your best words or images on a project co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund or the Cohesion Fund. International Youth Media Summit

Founded in 2006, the International Youth Media Summit (IYMS) brings together hundreds of participants every year, providing young people with opportunities for self-realization. The Summit has previously taken place in Serbia, the USA, Australia, and Nepal and will be held this year in Falkenberg, Sweden, on July 27 – August 9. Deadline to apply is April 15th.
