Scholarships For Graduate Studies And Professional Development Training In Belgium

National of a developing country are invited to apply for the ARES grant to cover the costs of their graduate studies or professional development programmes.

The Academy of Research and Higher Education (ARES) is an autonomous public body of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation founded in 2014 to coordinate higher education on its own territory.

Each year, ARES grants an average of 150 graduate scholarships and 70 grants for training courses, to citizens from countries in the global South.

The graduate scholarships cover the international travel costs, living expenses at €1,150/month for 12 months, insurance, and additional settling-in allowances of €850.

Scholarships for professional development training programmes cover the international travel costs, living expenses at €83/day for stays lasting eight to 17 days, €1,400/month for stays lasting 18 days to six months. Insurance and a one-one €150 settling-in allowance will also be provided.

Application process will start in October 2021.


Main Criteria

Candidates must be residing and working in their country of origin when they apply.

The following countries are eligible: Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cuba, Ecuador, Ethiopia (only for training courses in English), Haiti, Madagascar, Morocco, Niger, Peru, the Philippines, the DR Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, and Vietnam.

Candidates must be under the age of 40 for degree programmes, and under 45 for training courses, at the time the training is scheduled to begin.
