Remote Fellowship For Early Career Researchers

Early career researchers studying, writing and/or teaching on academic freedom and related higher education values are invited to participate in an eight-month remote fellowship. Participants will benefit from monthly workshops and a stipend of $8,000. The deadline is on Sunday 15th August 2021.

Scholars at Risk (SAR) is an international network of institutions and individuals whose mission it is to protect scholars and promote academic freedom.

The programme is intended to provide a research stipend and supportive professional community for researchers to develop and share related work leading to a publishable article, new course offering, workshop, webinar, conference presentation, or other identified end product.

Fellows will receive a stipend of $8,000 intended to cover research expenses, publication, or other costs, as the fellow may decide.

Over the course of the eight-month programme, from November 2021 to June 2022, fellows will complete their proposed project and participate in monthly remote, online workshop sessions.

Candidates should demonstrate interest in teaching, researching, or publishing on issues of academic freedom. Preference will be given to projects involving comparative, international, or collaborative work, especially by or including as equal partners researchers from the global south.

The deadline is on Sunday 15th August 2021.

Main Criteria

The opportunity is open to researchers who obtained their graduate degree within the past eight years.

Current research or teaching affiliation with a higher education institution is required.

Candidates should provide a 500-1,000-word abstract detailing the research topic, its importance, and how it fits in long-term teaching, research, or advocacy goals.
