Paid Aeronautics and Space Research Fellowships in Germany

Graduate students and scientists are invited to apply for a DLR – DAAD Research Fellowship. The program will support doctorate studies or research in the field of Aeronautics, Space, Transportation, and Energy. The program is implemented by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Apply for Paid Aeronautics and Space Research

German Aerospace Center (DLR) is Germany´s national research center for aeronautics and space. Its extensive research and development work in Aeronautics, Space, Transportation and Energy is integrated into national and international cooperative ventures.

Approximately 8,300 people plus approx. 400 visiting scientists are employed in DLR´s 40 institutes and facilities at 20 locations in Germany.

This program is intended for highly-qualified foreign doctoral and postdoctoral students as well as senior scientists from the fields of Aeronautics, Space, Transportation, and Energy.

DLR-DAAD Fellowships offer outstanding scientists and researchers the opportunity to conduct special research at the institutes of the DLR in Germany. Fellowships provide support to doctorate students, postdoctorate students and senior scientists.

The duration of each program varies from a few months to up to three years. Funding allows fellows to complete doctorate studies and conduct research in Germany. Monthly stipends vary from EUR 1,760 to EUR 2,760 and additional payments may include flat-rate travel allowance, health insurance, and family allowances.

Main criteria

  • At the time of their application, applicants for a DLR-DAAD Fellowship must not be of German nationality and be able to prove their outstanding study or research achievements in the field of research corresponding to the fellowship offer
  • Excellent knowledge of English is required and knowledge of German is advantageous
  • Application consists of a statement of the reasons for applying for a certain fellowship, CV, a list of publications and an abstract of the final Master or PhD thesis
  • Additionally, candidates should provide a university degree certificate indicating final grade(s) and English language certificates (e.g. TOEFL IBT: min. 79; IELTS: min. 6.5)
