Opera Summer Programs for Pianists

Each summer William Lewis School of Opera provides internships to young outstanding pianists seeking to specialize in the vocal repertoire. This program allows them to acquire experience in interpretation, coaching, performance and as rehearsal pianists. Application process is ongoing.

Founded in 1993, the William Lewis School of Opera, which includes the Franco-American Vocal Academy and the Austria American Mozart Academy, is a specialist in Opera Summer Programs whose mission is to discover, educate and inspire promising vocal talent. The various Opera Summer Programs of the Franco-American Vocal Academy strive to develop the complete singer, providing the tools to compete in this most difficult of professions: immersion in the various cultures, vocal technique, traditions of the operatic repertoire, art song interpretation, stage training, expert knowledge of interaction patterns in the operatic milieu.

Annual summer internships include placements in France and Austria. The France Internship offers interns to work on such operas as Orphée aux Enfers by J. Offenbach and Les Surprises de l’Enfer by I. Aboulker. Interns will receive a stipend of 400 euros and be provided with a single occupancy unit with private bathroom and kitchenette. Musicians placed in Austria will work on Mozart’s Opera Die Zauberflöte. Along with the 400-euro stipend, interns will have their accommodation covered in a double occupancy unit with private bathroom and kitchenette. Interns are responsible to cover their own travel and meals. Some knowledge of French and German, respectively, is recommended.

Application process is ongoing.
