With over 6 million views, the rhythm and blues duo launched into internet stardom, performing on “The Ellen Show” and various other television outlets. According to Wikipedia, rhythm and blues is a music genre that incorporates blues and jazz with pop, funk, hip hop, electronic and more! The genre is also a prominent musical element in the black community of The United States.
After their fame gained a promising fan base, Chloe and Halle released an independent project titled “Uncovered” in 2013. The project consisted of covers by artists such as “Katy Perry”, “Lady Gaga” and their favorite, “Beyoncé”. The beautiful rendition of Beyoncé’s song “Pretty Hurts” managed to slip into the legendary diva’s hand, thus signing the Bailey sisters to Parkwood Entertainment, Beyoncé’s management company.
In 2016, the sister released their first professional debut EP, “Sugar Symphony”. The various television performances and performances in front of laptop cameras were no match for the honor of performing at the “White House Easter Egg Roll” and President Barack Obama’s keynote discussion that same year. That following year, the duos “Two of Us” mixtape received amazing reviews. Mostly self-written and produced, Rolling Stone magazine listed the album as one of rhythm and blues Best Albums of 2017.
That following year, “Chloe X Halle” respectively released the studio album “The Kids Are Alright” with songs prevalently placed in movies such as “A Wrinkle in Time”, the album set the singers out for total melodic domination. The album was nominated for two Grammy Nominations in 2018 in the categories of “Best New Artist” and “Best Urban Contemporary Album”. The song “Happy Without Me” is my favorite off of the album. The recent album, however, “Ungodly Hour “arrived on the scene this year (2020) the album truly made me completely a hardcore fan. With a mixture of sultry harmonies in this glorifying matrix, early 2000s aesthetic, this album is an entire mood. The amazing part that speaks above all elements in the project, is growth. Seeing the growth of these artists starting at such a young age, you feel connected to them, as well as protective. As they venture into adulthood and tackle discussion surrounding sexuality, faith, and womanhood, the duo spins an empowering vocal quality on all things epic. My favorite song comes with an upbeat and self-loving track called “Do It”. If I’m honest, reader, I didn’t love it at first. I just thought it was some song that blends well in the background. But as I took a second and third listen, it hit me with a ton of bricks. I completely fall into a world of confidence. All I want to do is grab my girls and take the night by storm!
