There are two money-related reasons to consider a master’s degree. One is that teachers who have additional degrees may be paid more than teachers who have a bachelor’s degree even when teaching the same subject at the same level.

The other is that money is available for graduate school in the form of loans, grants, and scholarships. As a teacher, you may even be able to get a better interest rate from a private lender than from federal loans depending on your credit score.

You may find a private lender online, or you might get a loan from your local bank or your credit union.

English is Easier to Learn than You Think

Becoming a Better Teacher

You do not need a master’s degree to be a great teacher, and a lot of what you learn about teaching comes on the job. However, learning more about the theory that underpins education can enhance your teaching ability. You can think of going to graduate school in education as simply adding another tool to your toolbox.

Getting a master’s degree might also be a good idea if you want to shift your focus as a teacher. For example, if you are interested in working with children who have certain learning disabilities or children who come to school speaking English as a second language, furthering your education can prepare you for that.

If you want to improve your English, you can apply for a paid English internship in Spain here.

Work in Administration

If you want to be a school principal or work in administration in some other capacity, your classroom experience combined with a graduate degree will not just make you an attractive candidate for employment.

It will also give you an excellent foundation to succeed and to serve the parents, children, teachers, and other education professionals that you work with.

Try the Private Sector

Another option that graduate school could prepare you for is to work in the corporate or nonprofit world. You might develop and design a curriculum for children in schools, or you could be involved in creating and delivering training to employees.

You could also become an educational consultant, working for private schools or in other capacities.

You could also pursue a career in international education. Schools around the world hire certified teachers to work with children of diplomats and other expatriates, and a master’s degree would make you a more competitive candidate for these positions.

There’s Always Government Work

Few people are as well-positioned to understand, advocate for and develop education policy than a former teacher who has the additional theory and grounding that a master’s degree can provide.

Both the government and non-governmental organizations that lobby and do other policy work would be places to look for a job.
