Management and Leadership Course from DIES

University department managers are invited to take part in a leadership and management training at the University of Oldenburg in Germany. Participants will benefit from online sessions and a full scholarship to attend in-person training in March and September 2021. The deadline is on 13 October 2020.

The training is provided by the Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies program (DIES). DIES offers a bundle of measures – training courses, dialogue events, projects and partnerships – that foster professionalisation of institutional management processes, alignment of education to international quality standards and strengthening of research capacities.

Using a blended learning approach, UNILEAD is structured in two on-site contact phases at the University of Oldenburg, Germany, and trainer guided online phases. An online phase of around 8 weeks is scheduled in which the participants are asked to read the study material and to work on short papers. During the initial contact phase in March 2021, participants will focus on project management and strategic management & academic leadership. Between March 2021 and September 2021, participants apply the skills acquired within their individual projects at their home universities. During the contact phases the participants will be guests of the University of Oldenburg. The cost of the courses, flights to and from Germany and ground travel to and from Oldenburg will be covered. Accommodation and catering as well as emergency health insurance during the contact phases will be provided.

Main criteria

Applicants should be aged between 30 and 40 years. At least a Master’s degree is required while the provision of international experience will be an asset.

The program targets higher education managers from developing countries.

Applicants should have been holding a university management position with managerial and personnel responsibilities no longer than 4 years in one of the following fields:

  • Managers of central university departments (Planning, Quality Management, Human Resources, Continuing Education; excluding academic units such as Deans, Vice Deans, Head of Department)
  • Task force managers for university reform projects
  • Managers of staff development units or programs
