Summer Internship Program
Headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, Johns Hopkins Medicine unites physicians and scientists of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine with the organizations, health professionals and facilities of The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System. The institution has six academic and community hospitals, four suburban health care and surgery centers, and over 40 patient care locations.
The Summer Internship Program (SIP) provides experience in biomedical and public health research to students from diverse backgrounds – including students from racial/ethnic groups underrepresented in science and medicine, students from low-income backgrounds, and students with disabilities. The program provides research exposure for students interested in potential careers in science, medicine and public health. Participants gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in research, scientific experimentation and other scholarly investigations under the close guidance of a faculty or research mentor. Students also have the opportunity to present their work in oral or poster format at the conclusion of the program. The program runs approximately ten weeks and students receive a minimum stipend of $3,000. Housing is provided. This summer internship program requires a full-time commitment.
The deadline is on 1 February 2021.
The program is open to undergraduate and graduate students with the intent to provide similar experience to a three-month rotation in a laboratory in order to become acquainted with a research project and techniques in medicine and sciences. Candidates will need to provide two letters of recommendation, transcripts for each undergraduate institution attended, a personal statement and proof of family income. There is no particular prompt for personal statements, but students are encouraged to tell more about themselves, their motivation in research, future career, and academia.
