Group Names From The Animal Kingdom

Herd, flock, and crowd are words that describe groups of animals of the same species. Flock is specific for birds. Other animals make do with herd or crowd. Some species, though, have more specific designations that relate to their particular kind.


A caravan of camels


A colony of ants


A bloat (pod, herd, or dale) of hippos


A convocation of eagles


A coalition of cheetahs (specific to male cheetahs)


A tower (or herd) of giraffes


A band of gorillas


A kit of pigeons


A pit of snakes


A flock (herd or pack) of sheep


A pod of whales


A troop of monkeys 

And there are also some historical terms which are no longer used: 


A murder of crows


An ambush of tigers


A parliament of owls
