Green Talents Award From The German Federal Ministry Of Education And Research

The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) invites young people to take part in Green Talents Award 2017. It is an International Forum for High Potential Individuals in Sustainable Development targeted to promote the international exchange of innovative green ideas. The deadline to apply is 23 May.

In 2017 the award has a focus on “Sustainable Production and Consumption”; and this year’s Science Forum, taking place in October, will integrate sustainability hot spots in Germany related to this theme. The programme is directed at and is looking for outstanding individuals of exceptional character. The winners are recognised for their outstanding achievements in making our societies more sustainable. In order to participate, candidates should submit their applications through an online form.

The first part of the prize consists of an invitation to a two-week Science Forum in Germany, where participants will be introduced to renowned research facilities and will have individual meetings with experts. Winners will have the opportunity to return to Germany for up to three months to conduct scientific research at institutions of their choice the year after the Science Forum. The forum and the extended stay will be fully-financed by the BMBF.

Main criteria

  • The award is open to all disciplines as long as it is related to sustainable development. The research project must be conducted in 2018 and should last between a minimum of six weeks and a maximum of 12 weeks. After the project, the participants have to submit a report summarizing the key results of their work during this period as well as the outlook for future collaboration;
  • Candidates must be enrolled in a Master’s or a PhD programme in any field related to sustainable development or must have completed their degree (Master/PhD) with significantly above-average grades no more than three years before the end of the application process.
  • English proficiency is required.
