The program partly relies on the concept of Au Pair: you main duty would be to play with the children and teach English (or other languages) to them. But you do not have to do any kind of work for your host family like cooking, cleaning or washing dishes.
Participants of the program live with the host family, go travelling with them, and join in all kinds of daily life activities. But Homestay students will have their own room, three meals per day and enough free time to enjoy and explore China on their own (you work not more than 25 hours a week).
There are no fees to join the program. More than that participants of the program will get an airfare reimbursement, insurance package and pocket money monthly.
