Essential Travel Apps for Every Traveler in 2022

There are thousands of travel apps that you can use, but it can be hard to choose which ones to download for your next trip. These are the ones every traveler should have on their smartphone.

Smartphones have become an integral part of our daily life. They help us keep in contact with family and friends or help us navigate in unfamiliar locations. When it comes to traveling, travel apps can help make the most out of your experience. Apps can help you manage your bookings, track your expenses, or even help to communicate in a foreign language.

With the variety of travel apps out there, it can be hard to choose and pick the right ones. To help you get started, here is a list of the most essential travel apps that will make your next trip even better.

If feeling overwhelmed is familiar to you when it comes to the organization and storage of all your travel documents and bookings, then you need to download TripIt. This app helps to keep your travel itineraries and documents organized and, most importantly, in one place.

You can set your reservations to be automatically sent to TripIt or forward your booking confirmation emails to plans@tripit.com and it automatically transfers all the information to your main app itinerary. This way you can access all your travel confirmations, detailed flight or bus itineraries, tour tickets, or even hotel and Airbnb booking information in one app.

Google Translate: For Easier Communication

Google Translate might not be the most accurate translation tool when it comes to longer texts, but it is still one of the best translation apps for travel. The app allows you to translate into 108 languages by typing and even access 59 languages offline, this means that you don’t have to be connected to the internet to be able to use it.

The app has useful features such as translation via photo which you can use the next time you want to try something exotic on the menu, but you aren’t sure what exactly it is. Just use your phone camera and Google Translate will translate it on the spot.

XE Currency Converter: For Easier Conversion

It can be tricky trying to figure out and calculate if something is a bargain or not in a different currency. The XE Currency Converter app allows you to quickly access live and up-to-date currency rates and even view them when you are offline.

You can even track currencies with alerts and notifications whenever they fluctuate. Open the app and convert the price into a currency you are familiar with right on the spot. With this app, you will never have to wonder if you encountered a good deal or not and you will save time by not having to do mental gymnastics which is mathematics.

PackPoint: Packing List App

We could all use a little help when packing our suitcases, and PackPoint can provide exactly that. Answer a few simple questions about your trip and PackPoint will create a customizable packing list for you, including recommendations based on weather forecasts, activities, and whether or not you’ll have access to laundry facilities. It’s easy to cross things off as they’re packed or add more as you go along. The standard version of the PackPoint app is free but does include ads and in-app purchases. You can upgrade to the premium version for £2.49 on the Play Store or £2.99 on the App Store to remove these.

If you tend to travel a lot with friends, family, or even in less familiar groups that require splitting costs, then you need Tricount. This app makes splitting the cost between groups easy and hassle-free. All you have to do is enter your trip, select currency and invite your travel companions to join your trip on the app.

Each time someone from the group pays for something, you can enter the amount in Tricount and the app automatically splits everything evenly. If you like to track receipts, you can also take a photo and store receipts in the app for future reference.

This is the only map you really need while on the road. With the help of Google Maps, you can get directions to locations based on different means of transportation (walking, driving, public transportation, bicycling), you can search for bars, restaurants, or any other activities, read reviews, find menus or even check how crowded it gets during different hours and days.

The best part is that you can create a map with all the locations you want to visit, download it ahead of time and then access it offline whenever you need it. If you end up somewhere without internet access, you can be sure you will not get lost.

Kiwi: All-in-all Booking App

Kiwi is a travel app that can be used to book all kinds of travel transportation and accommodation. From flights, buses, hotels, car rentals to tours and various activities. The app also has useful information on destinations and airports that is helpful when you need to know how to find lounges, ATMs, or even luggage storage during a longer stopover.

The app is easy to use and even allows to search mixed transportation options from point A to point B. This means that you can book a combo of flights and buses or trains if you are looking for a cheaper option.
