The Wes Vernon Broadcast Scholarship

Applications are open for Wes Vernon Broadcast Scholarship offered by the National Press Club and the NPC Journalism Institute, Washington DC. The award is open to any student at any stage in their career pursuing a degree in broadcast journalism. Preference is given to those students enrolled in community colleges, as outlined by the scholarship donor.

Organization

The Wes Vernon Broadcast Scholarship, established in 2021, supports diversity within the field of broadcast journalism while honoring longtime radio journalist Wes Vernon, a former National Press Club member. The scholarship provides $5,000 annually to a student who demonstrates a commitment to a career in broadcast journalism. The award can be renewed for up to three years, for a total of $20,000 toward educational expenses.

Eligibility

A candidate is eligible if they fulfill the following criteria”

  • Plan to pursue a career in broadcast journalism
  • Be enrolled in, or in the process of applying for, admission to a broadcast journalism program at an accredited university or community college

Deadline

The deadline for applications is 5 pm EST on March 18, 2022.

DW Akademie Journalism Masters Scholarships 2022 (Fully Funded)

Deutsche Welle (DW) Akademie Journalism Masters Scholarships for the year 2022 has opened their applications for their 13th intake of the Master’s program in International Media Studies. The scholarship is open to prospective students from developing countries. The scholarship pays for living and housing expenses. The tuition and flight costs will also be reimbursed. After the application deadline has passed, a committee will decide which applicants will receive a scholarship.

Organization

The program offers a combination of journalism training with abundant media development and knowledge transfer. It is a joint project of the University of Bonn, the Bonn-Sieg University of Applied Sciences, and DW Akademie. 

Eligibility

You are eligible if you fulfill the below-mentioned criteria:

  • Open to young journalists, media managers, and communication staff from developing countries, mainly from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. However, EU citizens, Canadians, Americans, and Australians can also apply. 
  • Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and, after graduating, at least one year of experience in the field of media. 
  • Applicants must have a good command of English

Deadline

The last day to apply for the scholarship program is March 31, 2022.

UC Berkeley 11th Hour Food And Farming Journalism Fellowship 2022 (Up To $10,000) 

The UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism is accepting applications for its UC Berkeley 11th Hour Food And Farming Journalism Fellowship. The school offers ten postgraduate food and farming fellowships in a program curated by Michael Pollan, John S., James L. Knight, Professor at UC Berkeley, and Mallia Wollan, the fellowship director. 

Organization

The heritage reveals the culture of the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.  The University has had a journalism major since 1937, but the professional school was founded in 1968. The fellowship is aimed at early and mid-career journalists to give them an opportunity to report long-form stories about food and farming science, agriculture, and the environment in print and audio media. 

Eligibility

 If fulfilled the below-mentioned criteria, you become eligible for the fellowship:

  • Open to audio and print journalists. International journalists can apply as well but without any assistance with visas. 
  • Preference to US-based stories but international stories can be considered with a strong US angle. 

Deadline

The last day to apply is March 15, 2022.

Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute Fellowship 

Individuals and organizations interested in partnering with the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute (RJI) on practical, innovative projects for local news are encouraged to submit proposals. During the eight-month fellowship, all fellowship projects are built and implemented. These projects are frequently chosen to include developing new strategies or models to solve a problem, creating new tools, developing a training workshop/program, or developing resources for journalists. 

Organization

RJI was founded in 2004 with a $31 million grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation. RJI’s headquarters opened in September 2008, coinciding with the centennial celebration of the Missouri School of Journalism. RJI’s work spans a wide range of journalism specialties, including media convergence, editorial content and methods, the evolution of advertising, management innovation, and the impact of new technologies.  In 2012, the Foundation gave RJI a $30.1 million endowment gift to ensure long-term funding for media industry innovation, collaboration, and research.

Eligibility

If fulfilled the below-mentioned criteria, you become eligible for the fellowship:

RJI Fellowships are open to US citizens and US news organizations. They also accept proposals from international journalists who plan to partner with US-based news and/or organizations to address a challenge that impacts US journalism and newsrooms.

Deadline

The last day to apply is March 25, 2022.
