Summary Scientists and clinicians from Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa are invited to receive cash prizes for their research on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and neglected infectious diseases. Individuals and teams will be able to win up to €50,000. The deadline is on 29 October 2020.
The European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) is a public-public partnership between countries in Europe and sub-Saharan Africa, supported by the European Union. EDCTP exists to accelerate the clinical development of new or improved medicinal products for the identification, treatment and prevention of poverty-related infectious diseases, including (re-)emerging diseases. Their approach integrates support for research with the development of clinical research capacity in sub-Saharan Africa.
The EDCTP Association intends to award four prestigious international prizes dedicated to the promotion of scientific research, improved health and Africa-European collaboration. These prizes are presented to outstanding individuals and research teams, especially from sub-Saharan Africa and Europe, and are awarded at a prize-giving ceremony at the biennial EDCTP Forum. The Tenth EDCTP Forum will take place in Maputo, Mozambique, from 17-20 October 2021. Scientific Leadership €10,000 Prize is awarded to scientists up to 50 years of age working on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected infectious diseases (NIDS). Outstanding Female Scientist €20,000 Prize is awarded to female scientists. Outstanding Research Team €50,000 Prize is awarded to research teams in sub-Saharan Africa and Europe, and Dr Pascoal Mocumbi €50,000 Prize specially recognizes senior scientists, policy-makers or advocates for health and research, from anywhere in the world.
The contest for the first three prizes (Scientific Leadership Prize, Outstanding Female Scientist Prize, and Outstanding Research Team Prize) is open to residents of a sub-Saharan African country, an EU Member State, or a country associated to the Horizon 2020 programme. The contest for the Dr Pascoal Mocumbi Prize is open to contestants from all parts of the world.
