Breakthrough Generation Writing Fellowship In Energy, Economy, And Environment

Breakthrough Generation initiative offers students and recent graduates an opportunity to complete a paid ten-week fellowship in the US. Students will delve into topics covering energy, cities, food and farming. Travel and housing assistance will be provided in addition to $600/week remuneration. The deadline is on Friday 12th February 2021.

Breakthrough Generation is an initiative in the Breakthrough Institute’s research programme, founded in 2008 to foster the development of a new generation of thinkers and writers capable of finding pragmatic new solutions to challenges in the areas of energy, economy, and environment.

Interns receive a remuneration of $600 per week. Additional travel and housing assistance stipends are available upon acceptance based on an as-needed basis.

In the first two weeks of the internship, participants cover include modernization theory, social psychology, aspiration politics and philosophy, economics and innovation policy, and technology policy.

For the remainder of the fellowship, fellows work in small teams divided between three programme areas: energy, cities, or food & farming.

This year’s fellowship is scheduled to be hosted offline; however, the plans may be adjusted according to the latest public health guidelines.

The deadline is on Friday 12th February 2021.

 

Main Criteria

  • Final-year undergraduates, college graduates, and postgraduates are eligible to apply for the fellowship. Fellowships are open to applicants from any country.
  • Please indicate at the top of your cover letter which of the three research areas you wish to be considered for: energy, cities, or food & farming.
  • A CV of up to two pages and three writing samples of up to 1000 words are required.
  • At least three professional references with contact information should be provided.
