Australian Book Review Short Story Contest

Australian Book Review welcomes entries in the 2018 ABR Elizabeth Jolley Short Story Prize, one of the world’s leading prizes for an original short story. The Jolley Prize is worth a total of $12,500. Entry is open to anyone in the world who is writing in English. The deadline is on April 10, 2018.

$7,000, $2,000, and $1,000 will be awarded to the first, second, and third places, respectively. The three commended stories will share the remaining $2,500.

Main criteria

  • Entries must be a single story of 2,000 to 5,000 words, written in English;
  • Entries should be either PDFs or Word documents;
  • The text should be presented with 1.5 spacing and in 12 pt font size. The pages should be numbered;
  • Multiple entries are permitted;
  • Entries must be original works of fiction written by an individual author;
  • Entries must not infringe upon anyone’s copyright;
  • The competition is open to citizens of any country.
