Expressing Metaphors

One gets a little wary when one hears the words ‘figuratively speaking’. The dictionary says, a metaphor “is a figure of speech in which a word or a phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable”. Well, given the latitude of ‘not literally applicable’ some of the figuratively speaking words can be a bit of a stretch.

Backaches have become a part of growing with our modern lifestyle. I wonder if doctors give it a serious look any longer. And its not only the hurting back that bothers us, the list of health issues could go on - digesting problems, headaches, anxiety...The good news is that many of the health issues can be addressed and dealt with using fairly simple methods. The obvious one is exercise of course and yoga in particular. Yoga is a complex system combining physical exercise with spirituality and has a lot to offer. It is often suitable even for those with limited mobility. While the whole philosophy of yoga is fairly vast, let me introduce you to two uncomplicated sets which, if done regularly, will surprise you with the outcome: Surya namaskar (Sun Salutation) and Chandra namaskar (Moon Salutation).

Flying ball, cats always land on their fours and more facts that are simply fascinating and one doesn’t even think about. Today’s article is dedicated to some less known facts that can be scientifically explained. Watch the videos.

Gold mines, even today, we associate them with something very exciting. After all, not for nothing there were gold fevers, which surely didn´t result in much of a clear thinking. If you have an opportunity to visit one of the modern operating mines, you may want to put on hold, the visions of actually seeing glittering gold. What’s most striking is the unbelievable scale of everything that comes in use when mining for gold. Machines as large as few storeys high buildings that  from a distance look like miniature toys for children, given the enormity of what you see around the machines. Welcome to some of the impressive gold mines around the world.

The Internet and social media – the coolest technologies of the last few decades – do have their dark sides, too. Be it cyberbullying, hacking, or the scammers behind social media profiles, the media put a mirror before today’s society and its weaknesses.  This weekend’s movie tips address the topic of the traps that await us on the unexplored plains of the Wild Internet.

Ancient sciences have been teaching it and have been alternately accepted and ignored over many long centuries. Feng Shui or Vastu are teaching not only that we should keep things and ourselves straight and our accounts in order to achieve well-deserved success, but also that where there is a mess, there cannot be order in the mind. Now, when modern science comes to the same conclusion - it is confirmed and we can breathe again. With tidiness all around us, we will feel better, reduce tension, and argue less. Especially in the long run.

The way to a man's heart is through his stomach, or so goes the old saying. And that should be even more true for the upcoming Valentine‘s Day. This time try out irresistible homemade chocolate pralines with a fruit filling.

Foods That Improve Your Mood

Now that we are at the latter part of winter when the spirits are not at their best, it's a good time to make some changes in the diet. By including these foods in your diet you will surely feel better, because they have the ability to increase the level of happiness.

Approximately every ten years, it seems the movie industry produces a new wave of films with characteristics that speak to the audiences of that time and place and are clearly distinguished from the films of any other period.  The last ten years brought many successful films, some of which have already became cult movies.  For this weekend we would like to offer (maybe also remind) you of five of the outstanding ones, across the genres.

For those who judge a country strictly by its cuisine, the following words might be little liberating. Associating beer with Germany or wine with France no longer needs to be absolute, and similarly there may also be some common ground when it comes to food, if looked at more closely.
