Weekend Picks: The Most Intriguing Conspiracy Books

This week we present to you five books on a topic that will be appealing to almost every reader – conspiracies and accompanying theories. Some people are skeptical about such speculations, while others are willing to believe blindly in any unusual hypothesis, as long as it casts the blame for all our troubles on unknown secret societies. Get acquainted with these books and judge for yourselves whether they are just figments of someone’s imagination or well-grounded theories.

When Corporations Rule the World by David C. Korten

It is not a secret that transnational corporations are ruling the global economy, protecting their long-term and short-term interests by throwing their weight around.

In this insightful book, David Korten reveals the dramatic hidden agenda of the global economic superpowers and shows that restoring democratic control over economic activities is society’s most important goal.

When Corporations Rule the World discloses the reality and the consequences of the process of globalization, which is dominated by transnational corporations. It shows how this phenomenon undermines democracy and corrodes the proclaimed humanistic aspects of Western culture and ethos.

The book brings up the problem of regaining civil sovereignty which is an important starting point on the long path to a true democracy. It offers a passionate condemnation of today’s unfair economic order, expressed not by leftist extremists or idealists, but by an intellectually solvent political activist.

This book will give you hope that a more equitable economic order could be built in the foreseeable future.

Too Big to Fail by Andrew Ross Sorkin

This book, by Andrew Ross Sorkin, is a fascinating backward glance at the events of the 2008 economic crisis, which will be remembered for a long time not only by players in the financial markets but also by the majority of the global population.

You will definitely read this book in one sitting, like a tightly-plotted detective novel. However, unlike the works of this thrilling fiction genre, Too Big to Fail will not provide answers to all critical questions.

The book obviously demonstrates the meaning of the main lesson that should have been learned from the crisis: the complexity of financial instruments, which is associated with the intensification of globalization processes, and the role and the responsibility of governments, as the regulators of financial markets, in increasing their regulatory oversight to the appropriate degree.

The lack of proper regulation of the primary mortgage market and, most importantly, the market for mortgage derivatives, became the accelerator of the infamous financial catastrophe.

Too Big to Fail might appear a bit complicated for those who do not possess a basic knowledge of economic terms and processes, but it is certainly a must-read for young adults as a part of their financial education. It will teach you how to recognize the signs of a looming financial crisis, so it will not come as a bitter surprise.

The Syndicate: The Story of the Coming World Government by Nicholas Hagger

Are there any commonalities between the process of globalization, the creation of the European Union, and the war in the Middle East? Or why the US and Britain invaded Iraq despite the fact that the information they had about weapons of mass destruction and the connection between the Iraqi regime and Al-Qaeda proved to be false?

Is it really a war on terrorism, which is supposedly the greatest threat to our very existence, or are we just deluding ourselves?

Nicholas Hagger examines these events in the context of the history of the last century and then proposes a theory which is rather controversial and complicated. From the time of the Russian Revolution up to the present day, all historical developments have been inspired by the desire to obtain capital and control the world’s oil resources, and not by purely political motives, whether they are aggressive or appeasing and democratic.

They are inspired by the ambition and the will of the world government that protects the interests of clandestine organizations. Such actions undermine the integrity of nation-states and threaten to alter our world beyond recognition.

History Decoded: The 10 Greatest Conspiracies of All Time by Brad Meltzer

This book is a successful adaption of the similarly-named TV show on the History network. Brad Meltzer is a great narrator, and his book is saturated with facts and historical data, and at the same time really engaging and absorbing.

It reveals the stories of investigations into the most fascinating conspiracies in modern history. History Decoded will lift the veil on the murder of President Lincoln.

It will tell the reader about Confederate gold and the Georgia Guidestones; DB Cooper and the secrets of the White House; the Holy Lance and the prediction of the Apocalypse by Leonardo Da Vinci.

It will make you wonder whether there is actually gold in Fort Knox, who killed John F. Kennedy, and what secrets are hidden in Area 51. History Decoded is an amusing book that will immerse you in the thrilling world of conspiracies.
