Google’s Women Techmakers Scholars Program

Google’s Women Techmakers program provides visibility, community, and resources for women in technology. Through this program – formerly the Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship Program – Google is furthering Dr Anita Borg’s vision of creating gender equality in the field of computer science by encouraging women to excel in computing and technology and become active leaders and role models in the field.  The deadline is on 6 December 2018.

The scholarship program will include the scholarship based on academic performance and leadership; retreat in terms of opportunities and events to connect with fellow scholars and Google mentors, as well as an online network and collaborative projects. Each scholarship winner will receive a 7,000 EUR award for the 2019-2020 academic year. 

Undergraduate and graduate students will be chosen based on the strength of each candidate’s impact and diversity. All scholarship recipients will be invited to attend the annual Women Techmakers Scholars’ Retreat in summer.

Main criteria

  • Candidates should be currently enrolled at an accredited university for the 2018-2019 academic year or intend to be enrolled in or accepted as a full-time or part-time student in a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD program at a university in Europe, Middle East or Africa;
  • Candidates need to be studying computer science, computer engineering, informatics or a closely related technical field;
  • The scholarship must be spent on tuition, fees, books, supplies and equipment for the studnets’ classes;
  • Past recipients of any Google scholarships are NOT eligible to apply.

As part of the application form, candidates need to submit their CV, a letter of reference from a professor, and responses to five essay questions.
