Do you sometimes find that a movie sticks in your mind more for the feel than for the plot? Well, today we have chosen five such movies, and you can enjoy them over the upcoming weekend.
As Good as it Gets
Would anybody look for charming atmosphere in a film about a selfish, obsessive-compulsive freak? And yet here it is. Jack Nicholson, convincing as always with his counterpart, Helen Hunt, will actually make you want to step into the scenes.
Stepmom
“Mom, if you want me to, I will hate her” – says little Ben to his mother Jackie (Susan Sarandon), speaking of his father Luke‘s (Ed Harris) new girlfriend, Isabel (Julia Roberts). Jackie’s not-quite-hateful, but slightly sarcastic, view of Isabel changes when Jackie learns about her cancer and starts preparing all involved for the new role of Isabel as the stepmom to her children. The film has a very charming feel despite the sadness built into the plot.
The Holiday
Winter films involving Christmas often have an appealing ambience. And so it is in the film “The Holiday”. Amanda (Cameron Diaz) and Iris (Kate Winslet) share a desire to get out of their homes and spend the holidays far far away. Their wishes come true and they, each without knowing who the other person is, offer their homes to each other over the internet. No need to add much to the fact that this is going to be a holiday that will change their lives . . . with an atmosphere which you will think about for some time after.
Something’s Gotta Give
Harry Sanborn (Jack Nicholson) is dating Marin (Amanda Peet) to the great surprise of her mother Erica (Diane Keaton). When Harry has to be taken to the hospital, his physician (Keanu Reeves) tries his best to seduce Erica. That in a nutshell is the story . . . nevertheless . . . all through the movie one keeps thinking, what a cosy home, or that would be a wonderful kitchen to have breakfast in – simply charming.
The Kids Are All Right
The Kids Are All Right is a comedy starring Annette Bening and Julianne Moore as two moms, Nic and Jules, to their two teenagers, Joni and Laser (Mia Wasikowska and Josh Hutcherson) – a happy modern family . . . until the desire to meet their biological father, Paul (Mark Ruffalo), crosses Laser‘s mind. After that, nothing is quite the same.
